The Young Athlete.
We specialize in planning for the young professional athlete, and that starts before there’s a paycheck. Pick the track that fits where you are.
Collectives, schools, and what a 'package' really is.
The headline number isn't take-home. NIL deals can come from collectives, brand deals, and now school revenue-sharing. Each has its own contract, payment timing, and tax treatment, and the press-release number is usually gross.
Pay-for-play, inducements, and what to walk away from.
Permissible NIL deals are very different from direct payments meant to get you to commit somewhere. Anything that looks like cash, cars, or assets in exchange for a commitment has historically run afoul of NCAA rules and can put your eligibility at risk. The line is evolving, and this is not legal advice, but the smart move is to have compliance and an experienced advisor look at anything that smells like an inducement before you touch it.
Agent vs. financial advisor vs. family adviser.
An agent negotiates deals. A financial advisor builds the plan around your money. A family adviser keeps the people around you aligned. You may not need all three on day one, but knowing the roles helps you avoid hiring the wrong person too early.
Don't sign blind.
Exclusivity, term length, morality clauses, and likeness rights can lock you in for years. Reading these carefully, with help, before signing is part of protecting your future earning power.
Set up the basics before the first dollar arrives.
Bank account in your name, simple bookkeeping, and a tax mindset go a long way. Showing up with the basics in place means the first check doesn't catch you scrambling.
